This gorgeous family of 6 (If you include Chocolate the dog!) returned to Perth after being in Europe for over a decade. They bought with them a wish for a garden that reminded them of the wilder, cottage gardens they loved in Europe, along with the desire to grow as many edible plants as possible. The teenager required a basket ball court, the dog needed to be kept in and living on a sociable street they wanted to be able to entertain.

In addition to being whimsical and colourful, the planting had to cope with full sun, wind and the salty coastal air. This was not a task for the faint hearted! It is however potentially my favourite garden, particularly because I can see that it is maturing into the garden I envisaged. The planting will grow over the edging to create naturalised winding paths and a clearing in the centre. Eventually the trees will provide natural and cooling shade from their canopies in the Summer.
